Contact Research and Data Maintenance of a Transportation Consulting Firm

Client Overview:

The client is a sales leader at a California-based transportation consulting firm specializing in market development for low- and zero-emission transportation technologies, infrastructure, and ultra-low carbon fuels for commercial transportation. With over 30 years of experience, the company has overseen more clean fleet deployment projects than any other firm in North America and has played a key role in developing some of the world’s largest alternative fuel corridors.

Beyond its consulting expertise, the firm operates a full-service creative division, offering marketing and communications services tailored to the clean transportation industry. Additionally, it organizes industry-leading educational events and tradeshows, including its annual flagship events.

The Challenge

One of the key processes of their marketing/communication and event side of their business is email marketing and outreach. It was basically promoting events and tradeshows to attract the suitable audience to these events. They faced a lots of challenges in their email marketing impact their top line revenue. Some of them include:

Poor deliverability
High unsubscribe rates
Low engagement
Maintaining consistent email quality

In addition to this, they wanted to expand their reach and in order to do that, they needed to build a much bigger list of a good segemented data.

Our Solution

Each challenge comes with specific solutions and we together implemented those to improve the email campaign performance. Some were executed from the client side and some strategies from our side. Those from our side include:

Email Cleaning - Keeping an email list healthy is a constant challenge in email marketing. Over time, subscriber lists shrink as people change email addresses/job or lose interest. Without regular list maintenance and engagement efforts, this decline can negatively impact campaign performance. At the start, we verified all the existing contacts that were already saved in the CRM and ensured they are upto date. We researched each of the contacts and found that many of them have changed their jobs which means they are not using old email. So we not only found the new email of this contact who moved to a different company, we also found the alternate employee of this contact in the company from which he/she moved out. With this, we cleaned all the existing data to make it upto date.
Building List of New Contacts – In order to expand the reach, we started researching and adding new contacts to the existing lists. This time, it was very specific to each of the upcoming events and tradeshows. We found genuine 100% accurate contacts based on the segmentations elements like geography, industry, company size, job titles who could be the most relevant audiences for their events.
Email List Maintenance – We constantly verify the existing contacts database periodically to remove, add and update the contacts company and emails so it always stays relevant.
Results

By sending targeted emails to the organized database, they made their content more relevant, leading to higher open and response rates. This data-driven strategy not only improved engagement and event sign ups but also addressed several email marketing challenges for our client which include:
